Sound above the rooftops

Carillon of Jindřišská Tower

In the historic roof truss from 1879 on the 10th floor, a unique carillon has been installed since 2003, giving the tower a new sonic dimension. It was created in collaboration between Czech bell-founder Petr Rudolf Manoušek and the Dutch Royal Eijsbouts foundry.

A space made for sound

The tower’s roof truss has a naturally short reverberation, ideal for music and song. That created a space where the carillon can be heard as a full musical instrument — not just an addition to the tower, but a concert experience.

A unique musical instrument

Unlike typical tower carillons, this one was designed for listening in an enclosed space.

  • chamber character of the instrument
  • a unique concept in the Czech Republic
  • comparable rather to international installations (e.g. in Japan)

The carillon can play automatically (more than 1,000 pieces) or live — the musician controls it in real time.
